Drilling Down Into Collaboration:Early Learning Curriculum Learning Communities”Erika Yano from Heart Red attended this conferenceEarly Learning Curriculum Learning Communities (CLS) began with three days of intensive work followed by two additional days during the rest of the school year. During the institute, participants were able to experience the power of an early learning curriculum, learning community as a form of job-embedded professional development.Some of the goals were: Understand the significance of curriculum learning community in improving child learning;Understand the need for a consistent focus on issues of equity and excellence as we work to increase learning for all children—especially the most vulnerableKnow about and have practiced several strategies for engaging in reflective discourse based on ideas contained in different kinds of “texts;”Understand and practice how to give and receive productive feedback on professional practice;Understand and have practiced several methods for increasing learning by examining child and adult work collaboratively, including an understanding of when to use particular methods;Have a clear sense of the role of facilitation in creating and sustaining a curriculum learning community;Initiate a clear, practical plan to enhance collaboration and include an inquiry focus; and understand the support structure that will be employed to provide on-going, follow-up learning and support after the institute.REGGIO EMILIA, ITALY: Ateliarista, Beatriz Brito attended the first time ever Latin American conference, titled: “Primeros Dialogos Latino Americano Sobre Derechos de Ninos”, represented by 12 countries held at the Centro Internacional Loris Malaguzzi.
